Gears 5 - Settlement 2 and Lab concept work

In early 2017 I had the childhood dream opportunity of working inhouse at coalition on the Gears of War franchise with Gears 5 for a few months, they wanted a fresh pair of eyes for the preproduction of the game. Early exploration of a Lab in the first city. We were trying to come up with how far technology has come, so I used the ammo crates from previous gears and applied the aesthetic to the lab tech as a jumping off point.

For my second pass of the tower we settled on something that largely maintains the silhouette of the previous tower while feeling much older.

This was an early exploration of a windwall for Settlement 2, I originally envisioned it moving around the city on a rail like an old heavy train, but we figured something more sturdy would fit the tower.
