Blood Metal - Monastary of the Divine Wind

The Monastery of the Divine wind, my first personal concept project of 2024.

I am wrapping up some freelance and am starting to look around for more work so here is some 3D heavy concept work I put together to stretch my portfolio. Originally I was going to utilize pre-made assets for most the filler and just make a still image but I ended up making everything save a simple bowl and one of the vases.

At the start planned to do just to a still image but I wanted to see how far I could push myself in 3D and it worked pretty well real-time so thought why not also have a quick video.

This concept was inspired by many things mostly but mostly ancient Indian architecture, mixed with some common themes of one of the religions in my own main IP AENiGMA GAME, namely storms, bondage, and games/competitions. I also tried to do a bit of Fumito Ueda's method of designing from the feel of something more than literal reference, allowing for more fantastical layouts and patterns.
I technically designed this to fit one of the fantasy IPs I came up with as a kid called BloodMetal(I brought the name back as a character in AENiGMA GAME: STORM HACKER as an ode to it). So fitting it into the lore of my main IP was a lot of fun. It could easily fit in as planet covered in one large reality storm, landlocking them with bits of dust from the storm sprinkling down on them allowing for "magic". A lonely fantasy world of destroyed beauty. If It were to be a game it would probably be an open world action RPG with a bigger focus on environmental interaction in combat with traversal as engaging and rewarding as say Prince of Persia:Sands of Time games. The BloodMetal universe it's self was inspired by a mix of my own dreams and travel, Panzer Dragoon, Tomb Raider, Zelda, Heavy Metal Magazine, Riven, Final Fantasy, Morrowind, From Software, artists like Carceri d'invenzione and David Roberts, and various fantasy works.
