I am starting to look for new work, so I made some Fan Concept Art of what Panzer Dragoon Saga's iconic location "Uru Sunken Southern Ruins" might look like in a remake.
I bought a SEGA Saturn a few years ago and recently fell in love with this JRPG that is often called "The best RPG no one played". It's a tightly designed melancholic adventure with a one of a kind battle system and a fascinating world that presents It's self as these small free roam maps, like this location Uru Lake(Ui in Orta's archives).
When I do concept art I sometimes will have more than what is in a shot to help come up with a list of assets we need to make, and to sell the mood of the whole biome, so did so here pulling from a few areas of the map.
The foliage, architecture, vehicles, and creatures in Panzer Dragoon are often biomechanical and between irl references, the old dead culture would utilise nature in what feels like organised chaos or even an organic computer at times, biomechanical at it's most beautiful. I can only describe it's art direction as Ghibli's Nausicaa meets Mobius, who actually drew the og game's cover.
For the night variation I imagined bioluminescent algae can frame structures to make them easier to see when exploring by air. They would fit the decaying but beautiful world concept well as irl some of these beautiful lights are leaving arsenic in the surrounding water.
Panzer Dragoon and it's Logo belong to SEGA
